Leading paint manufacturer and colour authority, Dulux Trade, gave the architect and interior design community exclusive access to its colour experts at two recent industry events, providing invaluable insight into the use of colour in commercial environments and in education spaces.
At a design seminar held at BDG Workfutures in Farringdon, which saw industry heavyweights including Stephan Oberwegner, Max Eaglen and Nicola Osborn debating everything from whether architects and designers should bully their clients into specifying certain colours, to using colour to give a space a clear identity, Dulux Trade added real depth to the discussion. Dispelling colour psychology myths and explaining how one budget hotel chain is cleverly using colour to attract a more upmarket clientele, Dulux Trade Design Studio Manager, Susannah Mathieson, and Dulux Trade Head of Colour, Ann Noble, proved beyond all doubt that Dulux Trade is a true colour authority.
A couple of weeks later, Clerkenwell Design Week hit London, bringing the A&D fraternity a bustling festival celebrating the very best in design. Phillipa Allden, Marketing Manager for Colour at Dulux Trade, was asked to run a seminar on colour in education by sustainable modular flooring company, InterfaceFLOR, with which Dulux Trade has many natural synergies.
Phillipa presented to a packed showroom, addressing how involving students and staff in planning colour schemes can help them better engage with and relate to the final design, and presenting case studies of primary and secondary schools at which Dulux Trade Colour Consultants had used colour to create inspirational, inclusive education environments. She also offered advice for specifiers working in the education sector on where to begin when putting an effective colour scheme together, and how to ensure this specification is adhered to.
Ann Noble comments: "I think the participants in, and audiences of, events such as the design seminar and Clerkenwell Design Week are often surprised at just how well Dulux Trade can 'hold its own' when conversing with the A&D community. Our colour expertise is founded in extensive, robust research and real experience from major commercial projects, and we are in constant dialogue with architects and other professional specifiers to bring them cutting-edge products, services and technology that make a huge difference to their daily lives. Ultimately, we help make using colour creatively and effectively not just easy, but irresistible."
