In a recent statement, PPG confirmed that it had filed its defence in the legal action started by ICI Paints AkzoNobel. The legal action relates to PPG's alleged unlawful comparative advertising of its Johnstone's Paint range. PPG also announced that it had issued a counterclaim against ICI Paints AkzoNobel questioning the claimed spreading rates of some paints in the ICI Paints AkzoNobel range.
ICI Paints AkzoNobel stands behind the quality of its products and the claims made in relation to them, including in respect of spreading rates.
Guy Williams, UK Managing Director at ICI Paints AkzoNobel said: "We will be filing a robust response to the counterclaim made by PPG. The tests we carry out to assess the quality and performance of our products are thorough and proven over many years . We are confident as to the accuracy of our claims, and will be more than comfortable demonstrating this in court if necessary. We will not allow this to deflect us from the legal action we are pursuing against PPG, relating to its comparative advertising which we believe to be unlawful."
