Environmental Wash System

Dulux Trade has launched the Environmental Wash System, the first of its kind in the UK market to provide an environmentally responsible way of washing out painting tools, such as brushes and rollers. The revolutionary wash system converts waterbourne paint washings into clear water and solid waste, allowing for easier and safer disposal.

The transportable units provide painting contractors with the ideal facility for washing out paint equipment and tins. With Site Waste Management Plans becoming compulsory from October 2007, the system is set to become an indispensable part of the decorating clean-up process.

The units are two-part, a sink and a separate filtration tank. Painting equipment is washed in the sink, using a connected mains water supply. These paint washings then transfer into a holding tank, where specialist additives are introduced to flocculate and separate the washings into clear water and inert paint solid.

The clear water is then drawn off and either re-used or disposed of. Once the remaining residue has dried, it can be bagged and treated as non-hazardous waste. The disposal of this solid waste has been classified by the Environment Agency as 'low risk activity'.

Dulux Trade takes environmental issues seriously. The Environmental Wash System is just one example of the work Dulux Trade is undertaking that goes beyond simply improving the environmental impact of the paint products themselves.

Waste management is a key consideration for Dulux Trade and the company is involved in a number of projects looking at reducing the contribution made by the painting and decorating industry. The launch of the Environmental Wash System is the latest initiative designed to support our customers in meeting their environmental responsibility.

Two units are available. The larger ES450 is ideal for major construction sites and heavier usage, whilst the more compact ES160 is more mobile and can easily fit into a small van.
