Ecosure Matt offers performance that matches and in some cases exceeds that of equivalent matt emulsions, delivering favourably comparable levels of opacity and coverage.
Opacity and durability are areas where so-called existing eco paint offerings being organic paint or natural paint - from other (smaller) manufacturers fall down. If the opacity is compromised and an extra coat of the product has to be applied then by using more product in the first place the environmental impact is greater.
For greater sustainability, Ecosure Matt contains 35% less embodied carbon and less VOCs. Ecosure Matt PBW, Magnolia and some light base colours contain virtually zero VOCs. No organic materials such as solvents are added in the manufacture but some of the raw materials that we use can contain traces of volatile components which is why this figure can never really be absolutely zero.
Ecosure Matt PBW and Magnolia were shown to have no significantly quantifiable organic emissions in laboratory tests. Deeper colours were found to have some trace amounts within them, these coming from tinters used.
To limit even traces of volatiles compounds entering the atmosphere, the formulation of Ecosure Matt PBW and Magnolia forms a thin layer, which locks volatile compounds as the paint dries.
The pigment in conventional paints is visible when wet so the opacity of the finish is apparent during application. The unique Dry-Hide technology used in Ecosure Matt works differently; the opaque particles within the formulation are translucent or hidden while the paint is wet and full opacity is only reached as the paint dries.
When dry the final opacity of Ecosure Matt is comparable to that of Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt.
The Ecosure range has been listed on the One Planet Product website. These paints have been assessed against the One Planet living principles which include carbon emissions, waste, transportation and water usage. This listing follows a detailed environmental scrutiny of both the products and the business as a supplier.
*PBW, Magnolia & some Light Base colours only. No organic volatile materials, such as solvents are added in the manufacture of this paint. However some of the raw materials that we use can contain traces of volatile components which is why this figure can never really be absolutely zero. Bases have 29% less solvent than standard Vinyl Matt formulations. **Compared with Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt (2007 formulation).
# Kettle typical rating = 3kW; time taken to boil for one cup = 30s; hence, energy used = 90 kWs or 0.025 kWh. UK Grid Rolling Average (2006) of CO2 per kWh = 0.54 KgCO2/kWh (source Defra Conversion Factors). Hence, CO2 per kettle boil = 13.5g
