Cold-rolled steel

Generally supplied in plate or sheet form up to quarter inch thick. Sections are often referred to as 'bright metal' and they are free from millscale. New steel is often 'oiled' to prevent corrosion and preparation involves degreasing prior to priming. Corroded cold-rolled steel can be prepared by the method described for hot-rolled steel but blast cleaning operations must feature controlled abrasive size and velocity - otherwise there is a risk of distortion or perforation.
