Colour Futures 2010
ICI Paints, in conjunction with the aesthetic centre of AkzoNobel, have once
again brought together creative experts from around the world to produce
a comprehensive, global trends package; proving that we know colour
as well as paint formulation.
The result is a reflection of developments in fashion, architecture,
art, design, technology and popular culture.
Global in scope, ColourFutures forecasts the direction of
international style and design trends over the next eighteen
months. They are presented as five themes, each with its
own palette of contemporary colours accompanied by
beautiful imagery. ColourFutures is about anticipating the
market, but more than that - it is about inspiration.
Colour of the year
Each year, the colour specialists select a single colour from one of the five themes that sums up the prevailing mood of the time.
The colour for 2010 is a light, airy blue.
Colour trends
The over-riding theme for next year is one of reclamation.
The desire to reclaim control in the current economic and environmental upheaval, to reclaim a sense of what is true and can be trusted,to reclaim a space for oneself in an ever changing world and taking the opportunity to re-establish new values going forward be they built on solid traditions or new horizons.
Colour transitions
Analysis of past colour trends show that neutral colours such as black, white and greys are more popular during an economic downturn.
This year we see a move towards colours that are lighter in mood and more optimistic in feeling - shades to lift our spirits given the dark and uncertain times that we have been through.
