Pyroshield has been developed to help reduce the rate of fire spread and fire growth once ignition has occurred. The thick barrier coat insulates the substrate from heat and the mineral flame retardants present in the formulation react with oxygen. This creates steam which cools the heat of the fire and reduces the amount of oxygen available to the fire. As the coating reacts, it forms a thermally stable resultant char that acts as a barrier to protect the substrate
This product employs waterbased technology unique to ICI. It is a fire upgrade system for wall surfaces that upgrades walls from *Warrington Blue Board standard to class 1 / class 0. These are the highest standards for flame retardancy and reduction of surface spread of flame. It is used without prior stripping (subject to surface condition) and can be over coated with any approved & tested Dulux Trade finish without degradation of its performance, significantly reducing cost.
Two Coats of Dulux Trade Pyroshield Basecoat when used in conjunction with the Dulux Trade finish listed conforms to BS476 Part 7 - Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame giving this system a "Class 1" certification.
Three Coats of Dulux Trade Pyroshield Basecoat when used in conjunction with the Dulux Trade finish listed conforms to BS476 Part 6 - Fire Propagation, and BS476 Part 7 - Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame, which combines to give this paint system a Class "O" certification.
*The Warrington 'Blue Board' takes 12 weeks to prepare and is designed to simulate a real life, worst case scenario. This 'unofficial' industry standard Blue Board is the yardstick by which a responsible specifier (or manufacturer) would want to relate the performance of a flame retardant upgrade system in a test situation to their building.
