PLGN 4.04 Anti-graffiti coatings

Anti Graffiti coatings fall into three categories:

  • Sacrificial coatings which are removed by stripping with alkali or solvents when the film has been defaced.
  • Coatings that resist the effect of defacing agents
  • Coatings that can withstand rigorous cleaning e.g. steam cleaning or solvent cleaning.

The most common graffiti agents are aerosol paints and felt tip markers.

Sacrificial coatings are not popular in the UK and the vast majority of coatings exhibit a combination of resistance to graffiti and the ability to withstand rigorous cleaning regimes.

Technologies most frequently employed are solvent based moisture cured urethanes(MCU's) or solvent based two pack polyurethanes which provide hard chemical resistant finishes together with a much smaller number of water based epoxy and polyurethane coatings.

As a water based product Dulux Trade Anti-Graffiti / Hygiene System offers significant advantages in the area of odour, taint and ease of use compared to traditional solvent based coatings and is recommended for areas requiring an extreme cleaning regime. Kitchens, Changing rooms and Toilets as well as all areas subject to graffiti attack are suited to this product. Fast graffiti removal dissuades repetition, improves morale of the occupants which helps improve outcomes

Dulux Anti Graffiti Testing Data

Interior Durability

  • Very hard, wear and knock resistant finish Impervious finish, resistant to fungal and algal growth
  • Resistant to 30% caustic, 10% salt water, anti freeze, lubricating oil, cutting oil, vegetable oil, animal fats and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons

Exterior Durability

  • • Very good, after 5 years weathering only slight chalking is observed. This is a significant advantage over most solvent based epoxies used outside which chalk badly.
  • Resists 700 hours salt spray, humidity and salt water immersion test.
