LRV, or Light Reflective Value, defines the lightness or darkness of a colour. LRV has a scale of 0-99: the higher the number, the lighter the colour. This value is key to identifying colours that are 30 points different in LRV, in accordance with BS8300 & Building Regulations Part M.
The Dulux Trade Colour Palette notation system easily identifies the LRV. It is the second part of the code and consists of a number between 00 and 99. This easy-to-use notation helps simplify colour choice. However, the substantial LRV difference required by Part M does limit the colour combinations available.
